Abuse hurts more than one person.

WCH has been providing support to women in distress since 1978. Through a variety of confidential programs and emergency facilities, we’ve assisted more than 24,000 women and children with privacy, shelter and counseling in a time of physical and emotional crisis. Abuse hurts individuals and destroys families. Our mission is to help women and their children recover their lives in a non-judgmental environment with a vision of ending women abuse and its impact on families and communities, collaborating with other community efforts to assist men with their own healing journey.

  • One Billion Rising

    One Billion Rising

Why dance? When One Billion bodies rise and dance on 14 February 2013, we will join in solidarity, purpose and energy and shake the world into a new consciousness. Dancing insists we take up space. It has no set direction but we go there together. It’s dangerous, joyous, sexual, holy, disruptive. It breaks the rules. It can happen anywhere at anytime with anyone and everyone. It’s free. No corporation can control it. It joins us and pushes us to go further. It’s contagious and it spreads quickly. It’s of the body. It’s transcendent.
Why should I join? To show the world that we want to end violence against one billion women and girls! By being a part of One Billion Rising we will all discover our solidarity and the scope of this issue. We will come to know that ending violence against women is as important as ending poverty, or Aids or global warming. We will come to see that it is not a local issue or particular to any culture or religion or village or age. We will come to see what is possible. When One Billion bodies rise and dance on 14 February 2013, we will join in solidarity, purpose and energy and shake the world into a new consciousness.
How does my organization join?A. If you are joining the campaign as an organization and want to host a RISING, please go here to add your event, making sure to register using your organization’s name and include your organization’s name in the event title (i.e., Women’s Way – Philadelphia RISING). This will make it easy to find in a search. You should also send us an email letting us know your organization is joining. We will then be sure to list your organization, along with a url you provide, on our partners page.
Why 14 February? 14 February 2013 is V-Day’s 15th anniversary. When we started V-Day 14 years ago, we had the outrageous idea that we could end violence against women. Though we have seen many victories over the years, violence against women and girls is still prevalent. One Billion Rising is an appreciation, amplification and an escalation.
Is it OK if I rise alone? Yes, whether you are alone, with a friend or with hundreds of thousands more, you’re making a difference. On our campaign website you will be able to find all One Billion Rising events in your area and join the ones that interest you.
Can men join? Yes, of course. Violence against women and girls is not only a woman’s issue; it’s a human issue. When we say everyone should join the campaign we mean EVERYONE.

Choose to be a part of One Billion Rising! You will make a difference!!
